ACT III　Speaking of Rolls

The Master says,

“A roll.”

We begin with fish.

Yet somehow,

every fish story becomes a story about rolls.

Why is that?

Perhaps the seaweed is to blame.

Rolled sushi had already become widely popular by the late Edo period.

Portable, practical, and built from rice and seaweed, it would eventually become one of the most recognizable forms of Japanese food abroad.
