ACT II Lanterns at Tokyo Kaikan
The Master says,
“Tokyo Kaikan.”
We thought we were talking about a fish market.
Before we know it,
fishmongers,
craftsmen,
photographers,
and storytellers
are all standing on the same dance floor.
A curious hall indeed.
Sukeroku’s Note:
There was once a restaurant in Los Angeles known as Tokyo Kaikan.
The Tokyo Kaikan in this story is an imagined stage built upon that memory.
Some of it is history.
Some of it is hearsay.
A little of it may even be exaggeration.
Please forgive us for that.
Though the part about market people, craftsmen, photographers, and storytellers gathering together—
that part may be truer than it sounds.
